GOD Wants All to be Saved
I Timothy 2: 3-5
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved; and to come unto the knowledge of Truth. 5 For there is one mediator between God and men; the man Christ Jesus.
Before I was saved, I was almost killed twice. Not knowing Christ is dangerous and scary.
When I was 18 years old, just out of High School, I was in a very bad car wreck. I was a passenger in an older model Triumph convertible sports car. My friend was driving and swerved to avoid a pot hole in the road. The car went into the ditch, hit 3 culverts and flipped end over end 3 times. I was thrown out at 2 1/2 flips in front of the car. The car landed upright with me pinned under the car. The muffler was pressing down on my shoulder and the tailpipe was against my arm. Once a car has been driving for awhile the muffler and tailpipe get extremely hot. Thankfully, I had been knocked unconscious by hitting my face on the windshield before being thrown under the car. Otherwise I would have had to feel the pain of my shoulder being burnt to a crisp.
In 1971 we did not have EMS. Both of us were transported to the hospital by the funeral home in a hearse. I remember waking up in the hearse, looking out the window and reading on the side of the hearse, "Jack H Rowe Funeral Home" ! I wondered if I was dead or alive. It would be too late to be saved if I was already dead! However, God did not let me die! He gave me another chance. I spent 3 months in the hospital getting skin grafts and surgery on my face. However, God healed me and restored me even though I didn't go running to Jesus.
The next summer I was working part time at a Light Company and almost had my head ripped off by a transformer that exploded. I was at the warehouse taking the top off a transformer to change the tap settings inside. I was going to change the secondary voltages. This transformer had previously been in service and had apparently overheated at one point. There were no pressure relief valves on the transformers back then. When I went to take the top off, the pressure built up inside blew the lid up smashing into the ceiling of the warehouse. It then fell back down on my head. Instead of taking my head off as it blew off, the bushing on top of the transformer hit the ceiling then fell back down and hit my head. That required 21 stitches! A very near miss! Time to realize God was telling me something!
I was not Saved at that point. However, God kept me from dying knowing he would give me another chance. In September of 1972 I finally listened to the Holy Spirit. I was Saved at a Youth Christian Outreach program run by my friends. Thank God they cared!
God is Good! He patiently waits on us to listen to Him and commit to Jesus. How many more chances would he have allowed me? I don't know. But I'm really glad I didn't wait to find out and see what might have happened if I didn't heed his calling!
